The live forecast above shows Cambridge’s current conditions – temperature, wind, rain and cloud – updated every few minutes. Cambridge has a temperate maritime climate with mild summers, cool winters and moderate rainfall spread fairly evenly through the year, though the fens and urban setting can create local variations.

What does the live forecast above tell me?

The live widget provides the latest observations for Cambridge, including temperature in degrees Celsius (and Fahrenheit for those who prefer it), wind speed and direction, humidity, pressure and recent rainfall. By glancing at the icons you can see whether it is sunny, cloudy or rainy right now. The forecast section then shows how conditions will change hour by hour over the next 24 hours, so you can plan your day – for example, whether to take an umbrella if you are heading to the city centre or the Botanic Garden.

What is Cambridge’s climate like through the year?

Cambridge sits in the East of England, one of the driest and sunniest parts of the UK, but its weather remains changeable thanks to the maritime airflow from the Atlantic. Here is a season-by-season breakdown.

Spring (March to May)

Spring starts cool with average highs of 10–12°C in March, rising to 17–18°C by May. Frosts are possible in early spring, especially overnight. Rainfall is moderate, and sunny spells become more frequent. The city’s parks and college gardens bloom, making it a pleasant time for walking.

Summer (June to August)

Summers are generally warm but rarely hot. Average daytime highs range from 20°C to 24°C, though occasional heatwaves can push temperatures above 30°C. July is the warmest month. Rainfall is fairly low, with frequent dry, sunny days. Thunderstorms can develop in the afternoon after a hot spell.

Autumn (September to November)

September often remains mild (18–20°C) before cooling to 8–12°C by November. Fog is common in the mornings, especially near the River Cam. Rainfall increases from October onwards, and windy days become more frequent.

Winter (December to February)

Winters are cool and damp. Average daytime highs are 7–8°C, with overnight lows around 1–3°C. Snow is infrequent and usually light, though frosts occur on clear nights. The fens to the north and east can bring a biting wind, making it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

When is the best time to visit Cambridge and what should I pack?

For warm, dry weather, late spring (May) and early autumn (September) offer the best balance of pleasant temperatures and lower rainfall. Summer (June to August) is also good, though it can be busy with tourists. Pack layers whatever the season: a waterproof jacket and a warm jumper for spring and autumn; light clothing plus a raincoat for summer; and a warm coat, hat and gloves for winter. Comfortable walking shoes are essential as most sights are best explored on foot.

Are there any local microclimate features?

Cambridge sits in a relatively flat, low-lying area surrounded by the Fens. This means it can be a few degrees warmer than the surrounding countryside on still nights – an urban heat island effect. The lack of hills also allows wind to sweep across the city, especially in winter. The River Cam can create local patches of mist or fog, particularly in autumn. The region is also one of the driest in the UK, receiving around 550–600 mm of rain annually, noticeably less than western cities such as Bristol or Liverpool.

Frequently asked questions about Cambridge weather

What will the weather be like in Cambridge tomorrow?

For the most accurate view of tomorrow’s conditions, check the “Tomorrow” tab on the live forecast above, which shows the hour-by-hour temperature, wind and rain. Typically, you can expect a mix of cloud and sun with a chance of showers – it is always worth carrying a light raincoat.

How reliable are the 10-day and 14-day forecasts for Cambridge?

Short-range forecasts (up to 3 days) are very reliable; 7- to 10-day forecasts give a useful trend but details of rain timing often change. For a longer view, such as the 30-day outlook, treat it as a broad indication rather than a guarantee. The Met Office and BBC both produce extended forecasts for Cambridge.

Does it rain a lot in Cambridge?

No – Cambridge is one of the driest cities in the UK, with around 570 mm of rain per year, compared to the UK average of about 885 mm. Rain falls on fewer than 120 days annually, and most showers are light. However, the weather can still be changeable, so a waterproof jacket is useful year-round.
