This page explains how Insight Britain makes its digital journalism accessible to everyone, regardless of disability or assistive technology. If you are using a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, voice commands, or any other adaptive tool, we want you to have the same experience as any other reader. We have built this site to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards, in line with the requirements of the EU Accessibility Act that comes into force on 28 June 2025. What does this commitment mean for you?
It means you can navigate every article, image, video, and interactive element on this site using a keyboard alone, without relying on a mouse or touchscreen. All focus indicators (the visible outline that shows which element is active) are clearly drawn and remain visible throughout the page. Text meets a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body copy and 3:1 for large text, and we avoid using colour as the only way to convey information. If you prefer reduced motion, we respect your operating-system setting and disable any automatic animations or scrolling effects.
We have tested the site with the latest versions of JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and Narrator screen readers, as well as with keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Headings are structured logically (h2, h3, h4) so you can jump between sections. Every image has a meaningful alternative text description, and videos include captions and transcripts. Forms are clearly labelled, and error messages are announced to assistive technology.
How this works in practice
Take a typical long-read article on our site. You land on the page and press the Tab key. The first focusable element is the “Skip to main content” link, which appears at the very top of the page. Pressing Enter takes you straight to the article body, bypassing the navigation menu. From there you can use arrow keys to scroll or Tab to move through inline links, charts, and footnotes. Every link is descriptive (for example, “Read more about the Budget analysis” rather than “Click here”). If the article includes a data table, it has proper header cells and a summary, so a screen reader can announce rows and columns in sequence. If you use reduced motion, any scrolling text or animated infographic will remain static. This is not hypothetical – we have run this exact test with four different screen-reader users and adjusted our code based on their feedback.

The editorial team at Insight Britain, led by Editor-in-Chief Edward Davies Bennett, takes overall responsibility for accessibility as part of our editorial standards. The site is owned and operated by Valletta Civic Media Ltd, a digital media and public-affairs publishing company registered in Malta (Malta Business Registry, registered office at 42 Harbour View Business Centre, Level 3, Triq San Bastjan, Valletta VLT 1472, Malta). Our compliance with the EU Accessibility Act is overseen by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Sofia Lindberg, who coordinates testing and remediation. What if you encounter a problem?
Despite our best efforts, some content may present challenges. Older PDFs, third-party embedded media (such as social‑media widgets), or legacy articles published before our accessibility audit may not fully meet every criterion. We treat any reported barrier as a priority. Please email accessibility@insightbritain.co.uk with the page URL, a description of the issue, and the assistive technology you are using. We will acknowledge your message within two working days and aim to resolve the problem or offer a workaround within ten working days.
